Mount to Arataki Spatial Plan

In 2023 Tauranga City Council sought the community’s input on the Mount to Arataki Spatial Plan, a document that sets the direction for how the area develops over the next 30 years. 

I was tasked with creating awareness, excitement and ultimately participation - finding out what matters most to the community so the council can carefully plan for a future that protects the things we love, enhances the things we already have and makes room for the things we want. 

With thousands of responses the community input was invaluable, helping the council to draft and further refine the Mount to Arataki Spatial Plan which was adopted in 2024.

My key responsibilities included:

  • Communication and engagement planning - strategy, audiences, tactics, key messages, risks

  • Media and advertising schedule - budgeting, timing and phases, booking

  • Initial creative concept and direction

  • Writing - articles, website copy, media releases, ad copy for billboard, print, digital, social media

  • Producing photoshoots - pre production with photographer, sourcing talent, logistics 

  • Community engagement - assisting with survey and mapping tools, preparing collateral for pop-up sessions

  • Internal and key stakeholder communication

Destination Skatepark

In 2024 I covered the Mount Maunganui Strategic Communications Advisor role with Tauranga City Council’s Community Relations Team for six months. An exciting project in this portfolio was the completion and imminent opening of the new Destination Skatepark.

Working alongside the project team and another comms advisor, my role was to create some hype and anticipation in the media, explain the story of the park and its features, document the opening event and show how the park can be accessed safely via the new road and rail crossings and new shared path.  

My key responsibilities included:

  • Communication and engagement planning - strategy, audiences, tactics, key messages, risks

  • Writing - articles, website copy, media releases, social media

  • Producing video and photoshoots – writing two scripts, briefing photographer, pre-production with videographer, conducting interviews, sourcing talent, logistics 

  • Photographing opening event

  • Internal and key stakeholder communication
